Kenya Water Project - Yombra Village
International Service

In 2018 Rotarians of Sarnia Bluewaterland began the search for Rotarians in Kenya who would help us provide water to a village of 3,000 people.  That effort came to fruition on 23rd December 2022 when water gushed from the ground in Yombra near Lake Victoria.  The Rotary Club of Kisumu Central has been working closely with us to make water available to everyone.

Rotarians of Sarnia Bluewaterland are confident that this water project will improve the health of the community.  It will enable more children to go to school, decrease time wasted by adults transporting water, reduce abuse of women travelling alone, and encourage economic development.  The water will attract business to the region and increase each Kenyan’s share of their gross domestic product.  The Yombra Village Water Project will give residents a step upward, enabling them to exercise their abilities and to harvest the results of their labours.

Much more has to be done to enable the pump to use energy from solar cells to move the water to towers to provide pressure to a piped water system.  The Community Based Organization (shown above) has been formed to take over the project when WASH training (water, sanitation and hygiene) will have been concluded in two years.
